Elle Chae is a Korean-born artist who lived in South Korea and Fiji before moving to Ottawa. She obtained her BFA from the University of Ottawa in 2011 and her MFA from the University of Ottawa in 2016. Chae's work has been exhibited in different cities in Canada and in the U.S.
She typically uses her emotional responses to personal and sociocultural events to start her creative process. Her recent body of work explores the notion of home, challenging the socially accepted idea of home as a space associated with comfort and security.
Currently based in Ottawa, Chae continues to expand her study based on her interest in the ways in which individuals interact directly and indirectly and how these interactions change or create new meanings for the environment and society at large. She has been working on a new project that is greatly influenced by observations and experiences during her frequent trips back to her childhood home, Korea, for the past year.
